Get certified on a commercial hybrid engine.

  • How does this work?

If you are looking to obtain a NAR Level 1 or Level 2 certification, we will have commercial hybrid engine kits that you can build during the competition days to get certified on, as well as proctors to administer the Level 2 certification exams. In order to cut costs for you, a selection of altimeters can be provided given that they be returned with the undamaged motor and altimeter or you pay the replacement value. We will also provide parachutes to be shared along the same terms and necessary ground station equipment.

  • Who is this open to?

Any high school or college students who are NAR members are welcome to participate. The minimum age is 14, though 14-18 year-olds can only get a junior NAR membership. For more information on NAR memberships and how to get one, please visit https://nar.org.

  • When can I build it?

During the conference on Friday, June 7th, not only will you get to see the rockets and engines of competing teams and meet our sponsors, but we will also be holding build sessions! If you do not complete the rocket assembly there, we will have a dedicated space at FAR during the launch days as well.

  • When do I get to launch?

Certification flights will happen during the regular competition launch days (June 8th through 10th), either in parallel with competing teams or in their own salvos after all competing teams have finished.

  • How much does it cost?

Excluding a NAR membership ($25), you will have to pay $10 for our general Spectator Fee, $25 for the kit and $25 per fuel grain/nitrous oxide. Estimating that you may purchase two fuel grains, this certification costs around $100!
